Course vs College

Weighing the scale of your choice of course against the college your score can afford is a privileged choice not many of us would have.

DU, by itself, one could say, is a coveted university- that all colleges are the same with the infamous adage that your final degree will not even mention your college. It never, however- perfectly translates to all colleges being equal. In fact, it barely scratches the surface for prospective CUET aspirants puddling through the established, but somewhat misguided, hierarchical convention that pedestalizes the likes of SRCC, Stephens or LSR. The truth- however- not surprisingly, must lie somewhere in between these two extremes.

There is obviously going to be some difference in your experiences between the brand value-heavy colleges and those which only a prospective student would know about. That would be a big difference. What will not be a big difference is choosing colleges across similar clusters, and these clusters are something you will have to decide for yourself.

And remember, the new NEP system ensures that you're not pigeon-holed into your subject, even if it's an honours course, it offers you multiple choices to study what you're interested in- regardless of the course of your admission. Use this leverage to your advantage, it's not something earlier DU batches would have access it.

It's easy to fall prey to reductive thinking of getting into what you define as your best college being the end all of your professional or personal life. It's not. It simply isn't possible, even if you tried to make it. Never let anyone exaggerate the differences between colleges, for many of us, it was a sordid realization that our college's brand value matters far less than what you do after getting into college. The payoff, ofcourse, exists, but is subtle and gradual. You do not lose out on choosing colleges in a similar band, for one over the other.

Nearly all colleges, at least those which are similar in perception or rankings- no matter how you choose to gauge their level- will offer you largely similar experiences. Ultimately, remember to complement your decision with the choice of electives the college offers, and don't forget to connect with current students- and generally whatever makes you feel good about your choice- you won't make the wrong choice. It's pretty hard to, in fact.
